As I work toward getting my weight to my goal of 220, I have had different struggles over the past year and a half. One of the struggles was not being able to go to sleep.
Once I fell asleep, I was fine. Just getting to the point of falling asleep has been the difficult part.
I've done a lot of reading online about weight loss. I don't know what to believe because there is a lot of different thoughts on the subject and everyone is an expert...never mind their own personal health and wight issues.
My goal isn't to advise anyone how to lose weight are what is the best method for them. I simply want to share with you my struggles with weight and what has worked for me to lose the 60-70 pounds I've lost.
Back to sleep. It is my understanding (I've done no testing or research, this is what I believe based on my own reading and listening to my body) that you need proper sleep to lose weight. If your body doesn't get enough rest it will focus on storing more fat with the idea it will need to depend on it to keep going the more tired you get. With the proper rest your body is able to work at a better pace and allowing you to better burn the calories you intake daily.
I went through a period where I was not sleeping well. It lasted for several months. Some days it was my own fault for not listening to my body and taking a rest or going to bed when should have. Other times I would be in bed not able to sleep. I wouldn't fall asleep until after 3am and with a 6:30 wake up every morning, that's just not enough to function.
I'm now sleeping much better. I have been doing a lot to help me sleep. I'm trying to spend less time on the computer at night (I don't always do good with this) and I'm trying to not have a bigger snack or eat my dinner too late.
While I have a long way to go I know that I have been sleeping much better and I have noticed in my appearance, my weight on the scale and how clothes fit that I have started losing again after holding mostly steady for the past several months.
