Last night I cooked dinner for the family. We had spaghetti with whole wheat noodles, corn and french bread. My 10 year-old sits down and starts piling on the the pasta. I mean three giant servings...and he does this before we say grace. I said, "SON!, what are you thinking?"
Anyways...we learn later that his after school snack consisted of frozen waffles, a part of a bag of chocolate chips and cracker sticks. So between 3:45 and 6:00 pm he must have eaten several thousand calories. While I have had my bad times with eating habits, I'm now wondering if the servings I used to give myself have played a role in him serving himself so much and if my past behavior of eating out of boredom has played a role in his after school snack choices and the amount I now see him heaping on his plate. I may not have noticed in the past because of my own habits of eating too much.
So the battle continues and now includes making sure I watch over my son's eating habits before they catch up with him.

Wow. What a realization. Makes me think about what my own kids are seeing.
Man, that's hard too. But I know just what you mean.
