No temptation tonight at the Chamber of Commerce annual dinner meeting. Of course that was because the food didn't look good, wasn't presented well and what I did have to eat didn't have much flavor.
I remember when I lived in the South that people would comment that Midwestern food was bland and lacked flavor. I was though that wasn't true...at least in my family. Now that I've attended my first community type dinner activity, I see what they mean.
In the south, when doing a dinner event like this, you normally have a choice of two or three meats and for every meat you have two choices of veggies. So if there were two meats there would be four veggie choices and so. Tonight you had a choice of dried out chicken, no flavor beef roast, red potatoes and broccoli. The only thing worth while was the broccoli. The salad bar had brown lettuce and that was it. Dessert was some kind of rubberised cheesecake.
In the south, the salad bar would have two if not three choices of lettuce and more toppings than most restaurant salad bars. And dessert would have been a cobbler or two. And they would have been fresh. The meat would have been baked chicken, pork loin and beef. Veggies would have been greens, green beans, corn and okra. Choices. And they would have all been good.
At least this made keeping to my diet easier.
