Overeaters Anonymous

Some that know me probable remember this story. Others will probable find it humorous. Looking back it may have been a sign that I needed to do something.

In June 2006 I was working in a small Iowa town and was requested to help their chamber of commerce set up for an event. I was to meet the group on the square in the downtown area. In this particular town the square is where the library sits.

I get to town and I don't see anyone that looks as if they are meeting to set up for this block party that is planned. But I did see people gathering inside the entrance to the library. So went that way to see if that was the group I was looking for. They were not. They were the local chapter of Overeaters Anonymous. And they asked me if I wanted to join them.

So it was apparently clear to them I was an overeater. I remember being a bit embarrassed but at the same time, looking back, I was as large as I had ever been. It was six months later that I decided to start my program. Just imagine if I had started six months earlier?
